Some of the captions below provide an account of snow in these regions. In 2017, BRO provided an annual snow clearance grant of INR 70 per cum for 2 lane roads in altitudes above 2400m. Considering that both these routes fall in these altitudes, and assuming on average 5 m of snow cover on two 2-lane roads (7 m wide). The cost of snow clearance operations combined for these two routes (474 km + 424 km) is around INR 2,200 Mn, besides there are additional grants for air support provided to ground staff for airlifting persons, supplying fuel and spare parts and other things by helicopter. High altitude roads in heavy snowfall areas experience a major drainage problem during spring thaw. The snow melt water flows with tremendous velocity over the pavement, causing its erosion covered on either side by snow accumulated on berms during snow clearance operations. The water released by thawing collects in the centre of the pavement and the road itself acts as a drain. At times, this running snow melt water freezes on the pavement and causes skidding. Thaw water penetrates through the potholes and crevices in the pavement. When subsequent freezing occurs, this thaw also freezes and expands causing damage to the pavement. This alternative cycle of road thawing and freezing is one of the major causes of damage to the pavement in snow bound areas. American Gothic The Dark Side of Individualism Essay Example For Students
American Gothic: The Dark Side of Individualism Essay After the real horrors of the Civil War, the popularity of Gothic writing dramatically decreased in the United States. The Romantic Movement that had spawned the Gothic tradition was replaced by realism. It was until the twentieth century that the Gothic tradition was revitalization. The revitalization of the Gothic spirit was particularly felt in the American South. Modern Southern writers including William Faulkner, Carson McCullers, Truman Capote, and Flannery OConnor made Southern Gothic unique and attracting to readers. These writers were often grouped together in the Southern Gothic tradition because of the gloom and pessimism of their fiction. Influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne, Flannery OConnor wrote stories filled with grotesque characters, violence, and bizarre situations. OConnor never tells the reader directly whether her characters are good or evil; she wants the reader to make his own judgment based on the characters thoughts, words, and actions. She successfully uses this technique in The Life You Save May Be Your Own to guide and manipulate the readers judgment about the characters. The story The Life You Save May Be Your Own is very much a part of Southern Gothic because the writing includes aspects of the Southern Gothic tradition. Southern Gothic writing was populated with misfits, fanatics, and manipulative con artists obsessed with innocence and corruption, salvation and damnation. When writers looked at the individual, they saw potential evil 353. Flannery OConnor expressed this potential evil in the character of Tom T. Shiftlet. He was a manipulative con artist without a conscience who preyed on the innocent and trustworthy. The story had many Gothic aspects in its setting because the fictional world offereda way to explore the human in extreme situations and so arrive at an essential truth 353. The crumbling medieval castlebecame the decaying plantation, with its fallen aristocratic family isolated in time and place 354. A decaying house provided the setting for the weird and terrifying events 353 in the story. OConnor used these Gothic elements in her fiction to express what she felt were important truths. The revitalization of the Gothic tradition was essential to the increase in popularity of Flannery OConnor and many other modern Southern Gothic writers. Their works of writing can be grouped together in the category of Southern Gothic because of the gloom and pessimism of their fiction. Revenge for Emily free essay sample
An analysis of the reasons for murder in William Faulkners A Rose for Emily. This paper argues that William Faulkners A Rose for Emily can be interpreted by either looking at Emilys genetic history and family life, or by looking at the society that she lives in. Interpreting according to the above two styles or by combining both styles of reading, the argument is made that Emily is a victim, and that she kills out of revenge. This paper uses and cites two outside critical sources. Watching the evening news and reading the morning newspaper, one is bombarded by tragic, sometimes mysteriously twisted and brutal tales of homicide. More often than not such tales are accompanied by a biography of the murderer themselves which is equally, if not more, tragic and twisted. In many cases, the murderers are actually painted as the first victim in a crime committed as an inevitable consequence of their victimization. 3 Ways LinkedIn Times Are AChangin
3 Ways LinkedIn Times Are AChangin Vinyl is making a comeback, 40 is the new 30, and snail mail often makes a bigger impression than email. Indeed, as years go by, a lot of things are changing. And a lot of things are moving ââ¬Å"backwardâ⬠as they move forward. Iââ¬â¢ve been hyper-aware of this phenomenon lately. But I have also been fascinated by how new technologies are replacing, or supplementing, the way things have been done in the past. I thought Iââ¬â¢d share with you some of the interesting shifts happening in this regard in the world of LinkedIn. 1. Your LinkedIn profile is being used to evaluate your credit risk! Loan qualification isnââ¬â¢t just about credit scores anymore. Lenders now consult social media to gain a more comprehensive picture of loan applicants before shelling out dough. Lending Club and Prosper are two companies who use the information you share online (Facebook and LinkedIn updates, tweets, and blog posts) to evaluate your application. And DRB Student Loan has built a proprietary model that parses metadata from social media channels to build a reliability score that can supplement your FICO. If you as a borrower can show on social media that you are hard-working, dependable, and likely to honor financial commitments, perhaps you will pass the character test for getting a loan. See Could Your LinkedIn Profile Be Your New Credit Score? 2. LinkedIn could be the new U.S. News and World Report. For 30 years (and for as long as I can remember), U.S. News World Report has been the go-to publication for college rankings. I was not able to determine from Google research when they began publishing graduate school rankings as well, but I know that my first step in determining top schools has always been U.S. News World Report. Then, in early 2015, LinkedIn introduced its University Rankings and Graduate School Rankings based on how many successful professionals in various fields attended each university. This is a very limited criterion compared with the complex algorithm used by U.S. News World Report. However it could be quite useful! Hereââ¬â¢s a sample of what youââ¬â¢ll find if you want to know the best schools to attend to be an accounting professional: 3. About.me is competing with LinkedIn for college studentsââ¬â¢ attention. As LinkedIn becomes more powerful, some platforms are going after its gaps and filling them. About.me, a personal homepage website, is launching a new Campus section that aims to help college students shine even if they donââ¬â¢t have enough work experience to create a robust LinkedIn profile. On about.me, a ââ¬Å"Campus Favesâ⬠program has been created where students will be able to nominate themselves to be one of 15-20 students who are featured each week. Students can also be nominated by a professor or by their collegeââ¬â¢s career services department. If being chosen as a Campus Fave becomes a known indicator of extraordinary leadership qualities, then the status of being a Fave could make a difference in a studentââ¬â¢s attractiveness as a job seeker! About.me will also be making strides in the area of matching students with internships. Important note: About.me will in no way replace LinkedIn, and in fact every about.me profile has a link available to the personââ¬â¢s LinkedIn profile. Have you noticed other surprising places where LinkedIn is becoming influential, or where other platforms are encroaching on what has seemed to be LinkedInââ¬â¢s territory? Will LinkedIn buy about.me? What do you think? Please share your thoughts below! ðŸâ¢â Log in to Reply
